Sperm Donation

Sperm donation is a therapeutic option in which donor sperm is used when the partner’s sperm is absent, insufficient, or presents abnormalities that prevent the achievement of a pregnancy. This solution offers couples or single women the possibility of accessing assisted reproductive treatments with a real chance of success.

What is Sperm Donation?

Sperm donation involves the use of semen obtained from a carefully evaluated and selected donor. Donors undergo rigorous medical, genetic, and psychological testing, and all samples used in treatments are cryopreserved and thoroughly analyzed before being approved for clinical use.

Donor sperm can be used in various assisted reproductive procedures, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or ICSI, depending on medical indications and the established therapeutic plan.

Sperm donation is an important option for couples facing severe male infertility, for single women, and for situations in which there is a risk of transmitting a serious genetic condition from the partner.

Who is Sperm Donation for?

Couple representing severe male infertility or azoospermia treated through sperm donation.

Couples with severe male infertility, where sperm is absent or cannot be used.

Single woman holding a baby, representing conception through sperm donation.

Single women seeking access to assisted reproductive treatments.

Same-sex female couple with a heart symbol, representing family planning through sperm donation.

Cases in which the partner carries a severe genetic disease and the use of their own sperm is not recommended.

Treatment steps

Your step-by-step guide to Sperm Donation

Every treatment is built on a well-defined medical process, carefully structured and tailored to the individual needs of each case. The objective is for the patient to receive clear information, continuous support, and the assurance that every stage is explained in detail—from the initial consultation to the subsequent monitoring period. The entire journey is guided with professionalism, ensuring that medical decisions are made with full understanding.

Although procedures vary depending on each patient’s diagnosis, treatment always begins with a thorough evaluation of the individual situation and the establishment of a personalized strategy. This approach increases the real chances of success and ensures continuity of care throughout the entire journey toward becoming a parent.

Sperm Donation
During the first appointment, we review your medical history, reproductive status, and personal objectives. I explain in detail what using donor sperm involves, and together we choose the most suitable therapeutic option.
I assist you in selecting the ideal donor from accredited partner banks, taking into account medical compatibility and personal preferences. Together we complete all the legal documents required before beginning treatment.
Depending on the clinical situation, I may recommend intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilisation (IVF) using donor sperm. I closely monitor your menstrual cycle and, when necessary, use short hormonal protocols for optimal timing.
If IVF is chosen, donor sperm is used to fertilise the oocytes in our laboratory. The resulting embryos are cultured and evaluated daily until the optimal moment for transfer.
For IVF, a selected embryo is transferred into the uterus under ultrasound guidance for maximum precision.
Approximately two weeks after insemination or transfer, we perform a blood test to confirm whether the procedure was successful.
