Egg Donation

Egg donation is a therapeutic option through which women who cannot use their own oocytes may benefit from donated eggs as part of an IVF treatment. This solution offers patients the possibility of achieving a pregnancy when ovarian reserves are diminished or when genetic factors prevent the use of their own eggs.

What is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is the process in which oocytes obtained from a donor are fertilized in the laboratory and subsequently used for embryo transfer into the patient’s uterus. Donors are selected based on strict criteria that include medical, genetic, and psychological evaluations.

The procedure involves synchronizing the donor’s and recipient’s cycles or using previously cryopreserved donor eggs, depending on the chosen protocol. The embryos resulting from the fertilization of donated oocytes are cultured in the laboratory and then transferred according to the established therapeutic plan.

Egg donation is commonly used in cases of ovarian insufficiency, premature menopause, or for women with a high genetic risk of transmitting hereditary conditions.

Who is Egg Donation for?

Woman representing low ovarian reserve or premature ovarian failure treated with egg donation.

Patients with extremely low ovarian reserve or ovarian insufficiency.

Pregnant woman symbolizing egg donation for women over 42 unable to conceive with their own eggs.

Women of advanced reproductive age, where egg quality is significantly compromised.

Woman holding a symbolic egg, representing repeated IVF failure with her own eggs and transition to egg donation.

Situations in which there is a risk of transmitting a genetic disorder and the use of the patient’s own oocytes is not recommended.

Treatment steps

Your step-by-step guide to Egg Donation

Every treatment is built on a well-defined medical process, carefully structured and tailored to the individual needs of each case. The objective is for the patient to receive clear information, continuous support, and the assurance that every stage is explained in detail—from the initial consultation to the subsequent monitoring period. The entire journey is guided with professionalism, ensuring that medical decisions are made with full understanding.

Although procedures vary depending on each patient’s diagnosis, treatment always begins with a thorough evaluation of the individual situation and the establishment of a personalized strategy. This approach increases the real chances of success and ensures continuity of care throughout the entire journey toward becoming a parent.

Egg Donation
During the first consultation, we review your medical history and assess whether egg donation is the appropriate option for your situation. I explain the entire process step-by-step so that you can make an informed and comfortable decision.
I help you identify a compatible donor, based on medical criteria and your personal preferences. After choosing the donor, we review together all the legal documents to ensure a correct, safe, and completely transparent process.
Depending on your menstrual cycle and the medical team’s recommendations, we prepare the endometrium for the transfer of embryos obtained from the donated eggs. Hormonal medication plays an important role in optimizing implantation.
The donated eggs are fertilised with selected sperm in our laboratory. We closely follow the evolution of the embryos throughout their development until the optimal moment for transfer.
A healthy embryo is transferred into the uterus using ultrasound guidance for maximum precision. Additional embryos can be frozen and used later, if needed.
Approximately two weeks after the transfer, a blood test is performed to confirm whether the procedure was successful.

F.A.Q.

Egg Donation F.A.Q.

Starting a treatment or medical procedure often raises questions regarding safety, effectiveness, and its impact on fertility. This section provides general explanations to help patients better understand the working steps, what the procedure involves, and what results to expect. The information is presented in an accessible manner to facilitate a clearer understanding of the medical process.

If additional questions arise or if the individual situation requires specific clarifications, a direct discussion with the physician can offer personalized guidance and recommendations tailored to each case. Proper guidance supports informed decision-making and ensures that treatment proceeds safely.

Donors are young, healthy women, carefully evaluated medically, genetically, and psychologically. Only candidates who meet strict criteria are selected to ensure the quality of the donated eggs.
In most situations, yes. We comply with legal and ethical regulations that ensure donor anonymity. You will receive only relevant general information about the donor, without any identifying details.
The donor’s eggs provide the genetic material, but donors are selected to match your preferences and characteristics as closely as possible. The intrauterine environment and postnatal development also influence the child’s traits.
Yes. In most treatments involving donated eggs, fertilisation is carried out with your partner’s sperm. If necessary, donor sperm may also be used.
Generally, yes. Because donors are young and healthy, the egg quality is very good, which translates into higher implantation and pregnancy rates — especially for patients over 38–40 years old.
The entire process — from the initial consultation to the transfer — usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks, depending on cycle synchronization and donor availability.
