Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a minimally invasive assisted reproduction procedure in which laboratory-prepared sperm is introduced directly into the uterine cavity during ovulation. This approach increases the likelihood of sperm–egg interaction and is often recommended in mild infertility cases or when a low-complexity therapeutic intervention is preferred.

What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)?

IUI is a simple and well-tolerated technique in which sperm is processed to select the most motile cells and then placed directly into the uterus at the optimal time for conception. The procedure aims to enhance the probability that sperm will reach the egg quickly, bypassing potential difficulties within the vaginal or cervical environment.

This method is particularly used in cases of mild infertility, such as significant cervical mucus abnormalities, ovulation disorders, or certain male-factor conditions that moderately affect semen quality. IUI may also be recommended as part of treatment protocols that include ovulation induction.

In some situations, insemination is combined with careful ultrasound monitoring of the menstrual cycle, low-intensity hormonal stimulation, or additional sperm-optimization procedures to further improve the chances of achieving pregnancy.

During our consultation, I will review your medical history, fertility context, and test results to determine whether intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the appropriate method in your case.
I will monitor your natural cycle or your response to stimulation treatment through ultrasound and hormonal tests to precisely identify the moment of ovulation.
The sperm sample is processed in the laboratory to select the healthiest and most mobile sperm cells. If necessary, donor sperm can be used.
The prepared sperm is introduced directly into the uterus using a thin catheter. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and typically painless.
Approximately two weeks after insemination, I will recommend a blood test to determine whether the procedure resulted in pregnancy.
