Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure in which the uterine cavity is examined directly using a thin optical instrument called a hysteroscope. This technique allows both diagnosis and treatment of certain intrauterine conditions, offering high precision and a short recovery time.

What is Hysteroscopy?

Hysteroscopy provides direct visualization of the interior of the uterus, offering detailed information about the endometrial lining and any abnormalities such as polyps, intracavitary fibroids, septa, or adhesions. The procedure can be performed for diagnostic purposes or therapeutic intervention, depending on the complexity of each case.

During diagnostic hysteroscopy, the physician examines the uterine cavity to identify the causes of abnormal bleeding, infertility, or inconclusive ultrasound findings. Therapeutic hysteroscopy allows simultaneous correction of issues such as polyps or adhesions, without the need for additional incisions.

This procedure offers a significant advantage by enabling direct intervention with minimal discomfort and rapid recovery, and it is considered the standard of care for managing intrauterine conditions.

Treatment steps

Your step-by-step guide to Hysteroscopy

Every treatment is built on a well-defined medical process, carefully structured and tailored to the individual needs of each case. The objective is for the patient to receive clear information, continuous support, and the assurance that every stage is explained in detail—from the initial consultation to the subsequent monitoring period. The entire journey is guided with professionalism, ensuring that medical decisions are made with full understanding.

Although procedures vary depending on each patient’s diagnosis, treatment always begins with a thorough evaluation of the individual situation and the establishment of a personalized strategy. This approach increases the real chances of success and ensures continuity of care throughout the entire journey toward becoming a parent.

Hysteroscopy
During the consultation, we discuss your symptoms and carefully analyse the imaging investigations you have (ultrasound, MRI, or hysterosonography). If hysteroscopy is needed, I explain why it is recommended and we determine together the optimal timing for the procedure.
Recommendations vary depending on the type of hysteroscopy. I explain whether local or general anesthesia is needed and provide clear instructions regarding the optimal moment in the menstrual cycle. This ensures that the procedure is performed with the best visibility and minimal discomfort.
The hysteroscope is gently inserted through the cervix to allow visualization of the uterine cavity. If abnormalities such as polyps, intracavitary fibroids, adhesions, or a uterine septum are identified, they can be removed during the same session using fine instruments, without the need for abdominal incisions.
In most cases, you can return home the same day. Mild cramps or light spotting may occur, but these resolve quickly. I provide clear recommendations for the period immediately following the procedure.
During the postoperative follow-up, we review the results and discuss whether additional treatment or adjustments to your fertility plan are needed. I guide you step by step according to your reproductive goals.

F.A.Q.

Hysteroscopy F.A.Q.

Starting a treatment or medical procedure often raises questions regarding safety, effectiveness, and its impact on fertility. This section provides general explanations to help patients better understand the working steps, what the procedure involves, and what results to expect. The information is presented in an accessible manner to facilitate a clearer understanding of the medical process.

If additional questions arise or if the individual situation requires specific clarifications, a direct discussion with the physician can offer personalized guidance and recommendations tailored to each case. Proper guidance supports informed decision-making and ensures that treatment proceeds safely.

Most patients tolerate the procedure very well, experiencing only minimal discomfort. If needed, we use pain relief or light sedation to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Hysteroscopy allows me to visualise and treat abnormalities such as uterine polyps, intracavitary fibroids, adhesions (Asherman syndrome), uterine septum, or changes in the uterine lining that may affect fertility or the menstrual cycle.
For diagnostic hysteroscopy, anesthesia is usually not necessary. If I perform corrective treatment, we may use light sedation or general anesthesia depending on the complexity of the case.
Most patients return to daily activities within 24–48 hours. Recovery is generally very quick, and complications are rare.
Yes. By correcting abnormalities in the uterine cavity, hysteroscopy can improve embryo implantation and significantly increase the chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy.
We usually perform the procedure in the first part of the menstrual cycle, right after menstruation ends, when the uterine lining is thin and visibility is optimal.
