While coagulation is essential in stopping bleeding caused by injuries, clot formation in the absence of trauma poses a serious health risk. Detached clots can travel through the bloodstream and obstruct vital organs such as the heart, lungs, or brain. Individuals with thrombophilia have a higher risk of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, or stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The condition affects approximately one in five people, but many cases remain undiagnosed because thrombophilia is often asymptomatic until a clot occurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thrombophilia can be&nbsp;<strong>inherited<\/strong>, due to genetic mutations passed from parents, or&nbsp;<strong>acquired<\/strong>, appearing in the context of medical conditions such as surgeries, trauma, cancer, or autoimmune disorders. Testing may also be recommended in women with PCOS, diabetes, or a family history of thrombosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thrombophilia&nbsp;<strong>does not prevent<\/strong>&nbsp;a woman from becoming a mother.
