<\/a>In vitro fertilization is a series of medical procedures designed to treat infertility by combining collected eggs with the partner\u2019s sperm in a laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embryo Transfer<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are two types of embryo transfer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Day 3 Embryo Transfer<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 performed approximately 72 hours after fertilization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Day 5\u20136 Blastocyst Transfer<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 performed once embryos reach the blastocyst stage, considered more advanced.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Before the transfer, the fertility specialist discusses with the couple the number of embryos to transfer. Additional viable embryos may be frozen for later use. The procedure is painless, requires no anesthesia, and is performed using a thin catheter. Transferring more embryos may increase the chances of pregnancy but also increases the risk of multiples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What Happens After the Transfer?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Following embryo transfer, rest is recommended. Mild cramping may occur. Physical exertion should be avoided for 3\u20134 days. Most patients can resume daily activities after 48 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Afterward begins the 12\u201315 day waiting period before the blood test that confirms the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What Is the hCG Test?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    hCG (\u201cthe pregnancy hormone\u201d) is produced by the embryo\u2019s trophoblastic tissue. Rising levels in blood or urine are the earliest indicator of pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
