In some cases, it may wrap around the baby\u2019s neck \u2014 a situation known as a\u00a0<em>nuchal cord<\/em>. This phenomenon is common, occurring in approximately 15\u201335% of pregnancies. However, when tightly wrapped or looped multiple times, possible complications include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fetal heart rhythm abnormalities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intrauterine growth restriction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meconium in the amniotic fluid, which might lead to respiratory complications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A nuchal cord can be accurately identified using color Doppler ultrasound (up to 97% accuracy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Management and Delivery<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Detecting a nuchal cord is not an automatic indication for cesarean delivery.
